Drink From the Fountain of Youth

By Renee G.

Hollywood has done it again.  Defined the age of worldly beauty.  Recent news from the AARP presented the new faces of sixty—According to Hollywood standards they are gorgeous, glamorous, and forever lasting yet only in the realms of Hollywood.

Constantly preserving the fountain of youth must be exhausting specifically being under the microscopic public eye.  Endless nip and tucks, facelifts and Botox injections, the balancing act of pounds, maintaining the right color tone, and pushing one’s body beyond its natural limits.  How could anyone possibly keep up?  They can’t unless…. they drink from the water that will never give them thirst again for “whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him will never thirst. But the water that I shall give him will become in him a fountain of water springing up into everlasting life (John 4:14).

God understands our natural desire to remain unchanged in beauty and age, but he did not give us earthly bodies that are timeless that would live forever.  “For we know that when this earthly tent we live in is taken down (that is, when we die and leave this earthly body), we will have a house in heaven, an eternal body made for us by God himself and not by human hands. We grow weary in our present bodies, and we long to put on our heavenly bodies like new clothing”  (2 Corinthians 5:1-4). “While we live in these earthly bodies, we groan and sigh, but it’s not that we want to die and get rid of these bodies that clothe us. Rather, we want to put on our new bodies so that these dying bodies will be swallowed up by life. (2 Corinthians 5:6)

A friend once told me “Born once, die twice. Born twice, die once.”  What on earth does that mean?  How is that even possible?  Nicodemus, a Jewish official evoked the same question.  How is it possible for a man to be born twice?  Is he to come out of his mother’s womb again?  What a ridiculous notion yet the type of birth my friend, and Jesus, is referring to is a spiritual birth one that voids a second death-eternal life in Hell.  “unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit….You must be born again (John 3:5-7).

Hollywood may be able to maintain the outward appearance of ageless beauty yet our outer man is decaying except for those who are in Christ because even though our body is dying away,  “our inner man is being renewed day by day….while we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen; for the things which are seen are temporal, but the things which are not seen are eternal. (2 Corinthians 4:16-18).
