“Miracle of the Widow” Movie Review

This heart-gripping movie was released in theaters in June of 2009. It isn’t rated, but it is probably best for ages twelve and above. I don’t think this story would hold younger children’s interest.

Ruth Zeller is a kind, aging Christian widow and a survivor of the Holocaust. Her business is called “His Bakery”. She is not in business for the money. She loves to help people. Regrettably, she needs to hire help because of her health problems.

Grace had moved away from her family and their Christian faith in St. Louis and went off to college at California State University. She left God behind, too. After college she moved on to Portland, Oregon, for a teaching job.

Grace causes problems for the sweet Bakery woman and puts a stop to letting the children stop at Ruth’s shop every Friday, like they had done for years before Grace came onto the scene. She did not think it was right for Ruth to give Bible verses with her bakery goods that she gave the children. Grace was fired from her job and needed to find another one fast.  She ended up having to humble herself and ask Ruth for a job at “His Bakery”.

1Kings 17:15-16(KJV)—15) And she went and did according to the saying of Elijah; and she, and he and her house, did eat many days. 16) And the barrel of meal wasted not, neither did the cruse of oil fail, according to the word of the Lord, which he spake by Elijah.

About Susan

I have always enjoyed writing little things, poems, devotionals, little short stories and bible studies. I love God and want to glorify His name and I love praising Him. I live in upstate New York with my Chihuahua-Snowball. My children are grown and left me with an empty nest. I have lots of time on my hands and love to fill it with God's Word.
