We Can Be the Change?

Oh boy! Have you watched the news lately? There are so many problems going on in this world. Poverty, hunger, sickness, crime, wars and rumors–too many things to mention it seems. Whether at the personal, local, national or international level, many trials and tribulations exist and threaten to poison our minds with their venom. Sometimes, I have to admit, I can’t even watch the news because it gets to be too overwhelming. If we get too overwhelmed, we may start to feel like no one really cares, and that the world is just doomed–that there is no hope.

So what are we to do. Well, I can tell you one thing we are NOT to do. We are not to give up. We know that He has given us direction about the “last days” we would face as we progress on our collective journey. We know that He said … and that John 10:10 says that Satan comes to steal, kill and destroy.

Yet John 10:10 also says, ” …  but I came that you may have life and have it more abundantly.”

You see, we have no reason to fear, because we know who God is and that we belong to Him. Nothing can separate us God’s love. According to Romans 8:38-39:

“Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

We know that God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, love and a sound mind (II Timothy 7). And we know that we can put on the full armor of God, which includes the belt of truth, the breastplate of righteousness, feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace, the shield of faith, the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. Ephesians 6:11-18.

That being said, maybe rather than being overwhelmed, distressed, or afraid, we are to pick ourselves up and dust ourselves off, knowing that God already has won the battle. He already has the victory and so we already have the victory. And it may help to think of it this way:

It is not so much that we are fighting the battles, as we are standing firm in the victory already assured us. The tools He has given us in Ephesians 6 help us to stand firmly, confidently, and courageously in such times as these.

Whew, okay that makes me feel better. So now what?

Well, maybe while we are yet standing, we can be a part of the solution. And that revelation brings me to the song I’d like to leave you with today. It’s called “Be the Change” and the artist is Britt Nicole. This song is an uptempo, uplifting musical offering that will get your heart pumping and get you motivated to stand up and make a difference. God has likely placed in your heart an issue that you care about and has given you the talents and resources to help you “be the change.” And if He hasn’t, talk it over with Him, and see where He leads you.

Making a difference in the midst of such huge world problems may seem unlikely and impossible. But who says you have to solve a whole world problem all at once? It takes but one spark, the passion God has laid upon your heart, to ignite the passionate action of others. And you don’t have to think of how many people you need to reach out to in order to make things happen. You may just come in contact with one person–a family member, a friend, a co-worker–who just needs your smile to brighten their day. Oftentimes, a whole chain of events, begins with just a single random act of kindness. (Check out this link: https://www.randomactsofkindness.org/)

Yes, it’s natural to get discouraged in the face of such daunting adversity seen in the news or maybe in your own life. And there is a time and place for coping with how you feel, and God allows that for a season. Believe me, He has BIG, STRONG shoulders. But when that season is over, feel confident that with God by your side you can stand up and Be the Change.
