What A Beautiful Name

A lone voice singing out “You were the Word at the beginning.” That’s how the song “What a Beautiful Name” by Hillsong Worship opens up, with the sentiment of John 1:1-2, which says “In the beginning the Word was with God and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning.” As the song progresses, in come the beautiful yet subtle keyboard and stringed instruments. It is a peaceful, worshipful selection that makes you appreciate the reverence in the name of Jesus. The song calls his name beautiful, wonderful, and powerful. It talks about the love of Jesus and asks what could separate us from it now. The answer is nothing. Nothing can separate us, for

Romans 8:38-39 says “For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

So we know from John 1 that Jesus is the Word. But what else do we know about Jesus and His name. Jesus’ name is above all names.

Philippians 2:9-11Therefore God exalted Him to the highest place, and gave Him the name above all names, that at the name of Jesus, every knee should bow, in heave and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.God is glorified through Jesus’ name.
John 14:13 Whatever you ask in my name, this I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.

Miracles are performed through His name.

Acts 4:30 While you stretch out your hand to heal, and signs and wonders are performed through the name of your holy servant Jesus.”

Jesus offers forgiveness of sins through His name.

Acts 2:38 And Peter said to them, “Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.…

Sanctification and justification are given through His name.

1 Corinthians 6:11 And such were some of you. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.

Jesus grants requests through His name in accordance with God’s will.

John 14:14 If you ask me anything in my name, I will do it.

Jesus has all power and authority through His name.

Matthew 28:18 And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.

Jesus saves through His name.

Acts 4:12 Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved.

Jesus is our everything, for He died for us and rose again for us in love and for love. He is our Risen Savior, Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, King of Kings, Lord of Lords, Prince of Peace, Lily of the Valley, Bright and Morning Star, Rose of Sharon. There are so many ways we can call on the name of the Lord.

So when you need Him, all you have to do is call on the most magnificent name there is. Call on the one who has the power to help you through every trial and tribulation. Call on the one who has the power to secure your victory.

Oh what a beautiful name it is. JESUS!
