Wife of “American Sniper,” Tara Kyle Shares Her Testimony

I would like to share this post as homage to American veterans and their spouses, and the sacrifices that they and their families make for our freedom.

You may be familiar with the box office hit, American Sniper, or the book that was released before the movie debut. If you have not seen this movie, it is a story of real life Navy SEAL, Chris Kyle and the sacrifices that he made for our country and his untimely death. Although this movie was fascinating and intriguing about the dedication of Chris Kyle’s service to our country, I was equally captured by his wife’s loyalty to her husband’s career. Tara Kyle, moved me; she had a grace and a resilience upon her that I was drawn to.

Tara is now using her tragedy to bless others with her remarkable overcoming life after her husband was tragically killed by another American veteran. Chris Kyle was always in danger as an American sniper, but he did not die on the battlefield or defending our freedoms; he was murdered by a fellow war veteran he was trying to help while at a shooting range. This is not the life that Tara expected, but Kyle is embracing this heartache and using her pain to reach and impact others. Tara had already survived so much being a sniper’s wife. She endured the many tours of duty that Chris was a part of, as well as each “reunion” when he would come home from these deployments.

Just recently, Tara received the Gabby Gifford’s Award for Courage and Bravery at Fort Meyer, Virginia. She is becoming an inspiration to other military wives and letting them know, “They are not alone.” Even though her husband’s death was unexpected in the way that it happened, she never got angry with God. Tara is using her story as a platform to witness and to share the message of God’s hope and redemption.

Tara penned these words from her book, American Wife:

“God prepared me beforehand, and God was with me during the process of losing Chris and He’s with me now to fulfill that promise that there will be bad things that will happen to you while on earth, but God will turn something beautiful out of it.

I feel like I have had no choice but to trust God, because I have been so broken. I am thankful for the opportunity to make a difference and create something beautiful out of ashes. The truth is I could not survive without my faith, and if we are open to it when we struggle, we can still see how God will make something good out of it.”

Tara, since the unfortunate death of her husband, is now a well-known veteran family activist, speaker, and author. She is an inspiration to others in their faith by not allowing bitterness and unforgivess to reign in her heart. Instead she portrays forgiveness and seeking God through the sorrow.

“He comforts us in all our trouble so that we can comfort others when they are troubled, we will be able to give them the same comfort God has given us.”
2 Corinthians 1:4

Please share your story of being a wife of a veteran. How can we pray for you? God bless you and your family for your service to our country.

If you’ve endured another tragedy, how have you been able to use your tears to comfort others?
