Chenaniah: Master of the Song

So I’ve got to tell you, I’ve never really taken the time to focus on Chenaniah until now, but what an amazing story he has. For it was declared by David that the Lord had chosen the Levites to carry the Ark of the Covenant and to minister in the His name forever (1 Ch 15:2).

Now, this is what makes this story special. Chenaniah was the Chief Levite and a skilled musician. He was even highly decorated in an ephod of linen. So we have a highly decorated, Levite musician chosen to lead men into battle with the Ark and mighty song. Wow, what a high honor. Not only that, but the Holy Bible proclaims his skill. He was a not just an ordinary musician, but a Master of the Song (1 Ch 15:27).

Let’s dig deeper. The Lord’s Army is carrying this deadly weapon into battle against the enemy, and the song is Perfect. The singers are singing, the instruments are playing, and the enemy is falling. I mean, song was part of their weapon. It was the will of the Lord, and Chenaniah was His master conductor. I’m sure it was more beautiful than the finest symphony orchestra. The poor enemy probably couldn’t even carry a tune!

Isn’t this just like our Lord? He doesn’t just do something; He does it with grace and beauty. For the Holy Bible declares that His thoughts are higher than our thoughts and His ways are higher than our ways. This couldn’t be more true.

Isa 55:8-9 For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the LORD. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.

Final Thought

What an honor Chenaniah had to be graced by our Lord with the gift of song. He was a leader, a warrior, and a Master of the Song. There is an important lesson to be learned in all this. God can take any man, give him a gift, and elevate him for His great purpose. This is exactly what happened with Chenaniah and why his story should continue to be shared throughout the Body of Christ. Furthermore, God loves you and has a plan for you. He wants to raise you up and make you a master of sorts. Please make yourself a willing vessel unto Him if you haven’t already, and you may just be the next Chenaniah. Thank you for reading and God bless.

1 Ch 15:27 And David was clothed with a robe of fine linen, and all the Levites that bare the ark, and the singers, and Chenaniah the master of the song with the singers: David also had upon him an ephod of linen.

What talents do you have that you can use for the Lord?
