Dealing with Needs: Stepping Out in Faith

By Joel B.

Friends, please take a minute to read the following ten verses. They are perhaps the most profound verses in the Holy Bible for dealing with needs-based problems.

Matt 6:25-34 Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment? Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they? Which of you by taking thought can add one cubit unto his stature? And why take ye thought for raiment? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin: And yet I say unto you, That even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. Wherefore, if God so clothe the grass of the field, which to day is, and to morrow is cast into the oven, shall he not much more clothe you, O ye of little faith? Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed? (For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things. But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.

This is some pretty powerful stuff. We’re not just being told that God will take care of our needs, but we’re also being told that God favors us over the rest of creation. There are even examples given of how God takes care of His lesser creations, which make the point that if he takes care of the lesser, He most certainly will take care of His greater. Without fail, if we press in we’re going to have our needs met.

So you may be asking yourself, “How do I press in?” Well, it’s really not that hard and I’m going to break it down for you with two verses. Lets quickly look at them:

Heb 11:6 But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.

James 4:8 Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded.

So, did you get them? Have unshakable faith and draw near to God. That’s it. That’s how you press in. You have that faith in God and He guarantees that you will be rewarded. You draw near to God, and he promises He will draw near to you. That is how you press in.

In closing, I just want to say that we’ve all went through struggles at times. It all comes down to how we choose to face them that matters. We can either rush at them on our own or we can work with God and rely on Him to bring us through things in His timing and for His perfect purpose. Just remember, God cannot fail you so it’s best to go His route. This doesn’t mean you can’t get help from others. It just means you need to stand firm in your faith and stay close to the Master. Thank you for reading and God bless.

  1. I am grateful for this lovely two step guideline that so simply put things in perspective. Have faith in God, and draw close to Him. What else do we really need??? He promise to meet our needs, to love us, and prosper us. As a result, we need not worry nor fret but instead trust in Him to give us what’s best.
