God’s Help, Times Three!

Growing up, I always took comfort in my mother’s words of reassurance when I was frightened or anxious about something. When she told me that everything would be fine, I could breathe a sigh of  relief! Yet there were times when I needed extra reassurance as I struggled,  doubt creeping  in again. Even today,  I find that I struggle in the same way when an issue–adult-sized–presents itself. I now go to God with my worries,  but how does God feel when I need that extra reminder that He’s there and that everything will work out? Some people feel that God is displeased with our concern, our struggle to believe and trust. It helps to remember that God is our Father, and that He loves us and understands our need for comfort and reassurance in the difficulties of life.

God’s love for us, and His promise of help, is amplified in Hebrews 13:5: “Let your character or moral disposition be free from love of money [including greed, avarice, lust, and craving for earthly possessions] and be satisfied with your present [circumstances and with what you have]; for He [God] Himself has said, I will not in any way fail you nor give you up nor leave you without support. [I will] not, I will] not, [I will] not in any degree leave you helpless nor forsake nor let [you] down relax My hold on you)!  [Assuredly not!]”

This verse says much about what we should avoid, but it also assures us that God is the reason we need never be given over to fear or anxiety about these or other issues of life. Just as a parent promises to care for their children, our Heavenly Father will take care of us–never failing to do so!

Today, I am the mother, offering reassurance when one of my children needs it. I am the grandmother who helps comfort a scared grandchild in my care. I always want to show love, compassion, and patience. Do I fail at times? Absolutely! But the perfect Father  never fails. And He reminds us in Hebrews not once, but three times, that He will not leave us  unsupported or without His care–He will not!

Are you comforted by God’s reassurance to be with you? If you struggle for peace in this area, how can you move closer to Him today?
