Let not your Heart be troubled

Matthew 14:29-31”Come,” he said. Then Peter got down out of the boat, walked on the water and came toward Jesus. But when he saw the wind, he was afraid and, beginning to sink, cried out, “Lord, save me!” Immediately Jesus reached out his hand and caught him. “You of little faith,” he said, “why did you doubt?” How many of us find ourselves in the type of circumstance Peter was in when he began to sink after miraculously walking on the water?

Jesus blazes the trail before us already giving us the victory and looks back to see if we are following in his footsteps doing the greater works he expects us to do. What does he see? His beloved sinking in the water because we did not have enough faith to believe in him that he would be able to keep us walking on top of the water. Once we take our eyes off his ability and set our gaze on the circumstances, we let fear set in and down we go. We like, Peter, begin to take our eyes off Jesus and look at the wind, high waves and ominous, dark clouds that life blows our way.

Jesus is always there to pick us out of the waves and encourage us to keep stepping in faith in his ability to walk on the waves and above life’s circumstances. We are told in Proverbs 4:25” Let your eyes look straight ahead; fix your gaze directly before you.” Keeping our gaze straight ahead on Jesus walking before us is the only way to true victory and freedom from fear. Proverbs 4:23 “Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.” Keep your hearts light shining brightly and anchored in Jesus and keep on walking on the water, you will never be pulled down again.
