My Jesus Journey (Pt. 1) His Lineage

January, 2012, the year I decided to get to know Jesus better.  I had listened to others’ messages about Jesus for so long, that I had forgotten some of the most important things about Him.  I wanted to get personally reacquainted with Him.  So, I decided to read only the Gospels and really hone in on the “red words” … Jesus’ own take on things.  Since I couldn’t walk beside Him like the disciples did, I had to do the next best thing – get to know Him through the words He spoke and those His friends spoke about Him.  God put every word in the Bible for our benefit and I had decided that the time was right.   I was excited to begin my journey.  To make it even more memorable, I chose to write down all the things that I re-learned about Him.  I love to work with words and I love Jesus.  Couldn’t get a better scenario.  I love sharing about my Friend.  I invite you to travel with me for a while.

My journey started with the account of Jesus’ disciple, Matthew, telling the story of  Jesus’ miraculous birth.  Just like you and me, Jesus had a heritage. He came from a long and noted genealogy line.  Some royalty and some commoners decorated His family lineage.  Some of the royals were to honor and some to dishonor, but all were put in place to play their parts…and play them they did.  Jesus was not defined by either the dishonorable nor the honorable ones.  He listened to the “call” of His Father for His own life and determinedly set out to obey that call or appointment, if you will, nothing wavering.  And since I have already read the end of the book, I know that He kept true to His course and made the difference for all mankind that ONLY HE could make.

What about your heritage or genealogical line?  Do you feel like you got a bum deal and missed out on the honorable royalty genes?  Or, are you feeling rather smug in the fact that honorable royalty genes glow all along your line?  Obviously, the only thing that really matters is that you have the same keen ear for that “call to purpose” that Jesus had.  You are uniquely placed in every way to fulfill your purpose.  Can you imagine being so important that only you can make the difference needed in your sphere of influence ?  Hard to believe?  Yes, you are that important.  Don’t hesitate!  You are needed.  You have been equipped.  Put any family situations in their proper place (like Jesus did)  and move forward with determination and focus.  When someone reads the end of your life’s book, will they see that you, too, stayed true to your course and made your unique difference?

  1. Sounds like an awesome journey! I’m ready for part 2. God bless. 🙂

  2. I read this yesterday and was thinking about earlier this morning. A relative who loves ancestry research sent me a note this week to say it appears there is a family link to Pocahantas, the Indian princess. That is a fun to thing to think about, but my heart is with you: my heritage is as a daughter of the King! Weaving those legacies of the past together is neat, but I want to live out the precious inheritance I have in Jesus!
