The Amazing Talking Heart

Friends, have you ever said something you regret? Something so terrible that you wish you could build a time machine just so you could go back in time and take it back? Well, I’m no expert on quantum psychics, and even the mention of such a term might scare some readers away; but unfortunately some things are just impossible to go and undo. Or are they?

Diagnosing Our Heart

The heart is an important organ. Not only does it pump blood and oxygen throughout our fearfully and wonderfully made bodies (Psa 139:14), but it also the source of what we speak. Keeping the source pure is of the utmost important, since ultimately what is in our heart is going to come out through our mouth. Is your mouth letting out cursing or praise? This is the key to diagnosing if you have a spiritually healthy heart.

Matt 15:18 But those things which proceed out of the mouth come forth from the heart; and they defile the man.

Your Heart Said What?

Sometimes less is more, and we can build a deeper relationship with God by carefully choosing our words. The Holy Bible even warns us to be very careful what we utter before God, and tells us to let our words be few. This is important because we need to be people of action and not jabbering about this and that. If you remember the story of Elijah and the prophets of Baal, you will recall the pagans were repetitive with their request. However, it took but a short statement from Elijah, and God instantly responded. So action rather than many words can be a great way to connect our faith with God (1 King 18:21-39).

Ecc 5:2 Be not rash with thy mouth, and let not thine heart be hasty to utter any thing before God: for God is in heaven, and thou upon earth: therefore let thy words be few.

Wisely Said

Do you realize that training your heart is what the wise do? No wonder Solomon, the wisest natural man ever to live (1 Kings 3:12), teaches this very thing in the book of Proverbs. You see, sometimes it’s better to hold our tongues and use our hearts to come up with something positive or encouraging to say to someone else. Don’t let your tongue be poison! Let your tongue bring forth praise and blessings to others (James 3:5-10).

Prov 16:23 The heart of the wise teacheth his mouth, and addeth learning to his lips.

He Said What? The Fool!

The Holy Bible is very blunt when it speaks of the heart of the fool. They will go against all truth to try to prove that the Creator doesn’t exist. However, be they warned that the word of God tells us that creation declares the Creator and they are without excuse (Rom 1:20). Pretty powerful stuff!

Now let’s be clear on one thing. Just because it’s true, doesn’t mean we should run around calling people fools who haven’t acknowledged the existence of God. Remember, use that “heart wisdom” to be encouraging to them and help them understand.

Psa 14:1 The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. They are corrupt, they have done abominable works, there is none that doeth good.

The Art of Restoration

So back to my original question about going back in time to change things? I must be honest; I do not necessarily believe that time travel is possible, but for this matter it’s not really necessary. You see, forgiveness is how we “go back in time” and repair things. Have you ever forgiven someone or been forgiven for something terrible? Isn’t it a wonderful feeling! You know what? This is exactly what Christ does for us, and He even says it’s a matter of the heart!

Romans 10:9-10 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

Final Thought

As I close, I would like to ask you a few questions. Do you have a spiritually healthy heart? Do you, or someone close to you, need forgiveness for something awful they have done? Do you even believe that God exists? I would encourage each of you to search your heart and diagnose its health. We may not be able to go back in time to change certain things, but we can restore ourselves in the present and help others to do the same. Thank you for reading and God bless.

What are some changes you can make in your life to have a more spiritually healthy heart?
