The Occult: An Open Door to Evil Spirits

Jesus taught this regarding the work of evil spirits:

“When an unclean spirit goes out of a man, he goes through dry places, seeking rest, and finds none. Then he says, ‘I will return to my house from which I came.’”
Matthew 12:43-44

Evil spirits are active in our world, and they are looking for people to influence, oppress, and torment. Notice that the unclean spirit that Jesus spoke of considered the person it dwelt in, its house: “I will return to my house from which I came.” An evil spirit without a person to live in is restless, and is looking for a place to dwell.

Demons cannot arbitrarily go into people at their own choosing. To enter the “house” there must be some door through which they come in. I wrote previously that we are not to give a place to the devil. One way that we can give the devil a place—or open the door to evil spirits—is through ongoing unrepentant sin. Another way that demonic torment comes is through unforgiveness.

One of the other major ways that evil spirits gain access into people’s lives is through the occult. The occult is a broad term that refers to the various activities, groups, and practices that seek knowledge and power through the spiritual realm, outside of the one true living God. There is only one safe way to enter into the supernatural: relationship with God through Jesus Christ, by the power of the Holy Spirit. Anything outside of this is an invitation for demonic spirits to gain a foothold.

Satan lures people into the occult through deceptive tactics. He makes it look very appealing and attractive; but it always comes with a price. I have seen time and again how evil spirits have entered into people’s lives through experimenting with or delving into occult activities. When they renounced the occult involvement, the demons were cast out and they were set free.
