Walking Together in Agreement

Amos 3:3 Can two walk together, except they be agreed?

Walking together in agreement can take on many forms. It can be about how we relate to God, or how we relate to loved ones in our lives. Amos 3:3 is a powerful scripture. It makes it clear that in order to walk together, there must be some form of mutual understanding. Without such, there can only be conflict. However, when in agreement, amazing things can happen.

Lets briefly look at one such biblical figure whom we know walked with God. His name was Enoch. Enoch isn’t mentioned a whole lot in the Holy Bible, but we know he was very close to the Lord. So close that one day the Lord just took him up. We find in Heb 11:5 that this literally meant the Lord took him one day so that he did not face a natural human death. Wow, that must have been awesome!

Walking together is also necessary for personal relationships. Married couples need to walk together, side-by-side, in agreement. If you are married and can accomplish this, then good things are certainly coming your way. This of course is not necessarily a two-way arrangement, as couples can walk together in agreement with God.

We also need to walk in agreement with friends and other family besides spouses. We need to find common ground that we can agree upon in order for healthy relationships to flourish. This isn’t always easy, as conflict is sure to arise at times. However, just imagine how smooth things might go at work if you were walking in agreement with your supervisor. How about yours parents or best friend? What if you were able to share common ground with them and walk in agreement? Just imagine the amazing relationships you could have.

So my friends. Lets learn to walk together in agreement with the Lord. Lets learn to walk together in agreement with those close to us using the Holy Bible as a framework. Sometimes it may be difficult, because disagreements are sure to come up at times, but we can at least put forth the effort. At least give it a try and see what happens. You are sure to find that as you draw closer to the Lord, He will draw closer to you as well. This is also likely to occur with loved ones who see you making an honest attempt to walk together with them. Thank you for reading my friends and God bless.

  1. Agreement-such a simple thing to hope for, yet so difficult to accomplish. And it is becoming increasingly more difficult in this age of ‘my way or the highway.’ Sometimes it takes a willingness to ‘surrender’ my ‘way’. Sometimes it is necessary to stand my ground. It takes dependence on the Holy Spirit to determine which action to take.
