Watered-Down Religion

By Joel B.

2 Tim 3:16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:

Have you ever heard someone ask an important question about the Holy Bible, and the person answering their question just threw out a feel-good answer that was completely wrong? For example:

Question: Does God send people to hell?

Watered-down Answer: Of course not. He loves everybody.

Of course we know the true answer is that God has the power to cast people into hell for choosing to reject Christ. Matt: 10:28 tells us to fear not those who are able to kill the body, but Him who is able to destroy both body and soul in hell.

We hear a lot of questions getting terrible, watered-down answers like the one listed above. Questions that deserve good answers. You see, it’s a danger to give people answers such as these because it can lead them down a destructive path and keep them there, especially when they pick up on these things early in life.

Friends, we have a powerful Tool for giving answers, and that Tool is the Holy Spirit. Rom 9:1 tells us that our conscience will bear witness to the truth. Let me give you a powerful example of this. In Matt 16:15-17 we have a scenario where Jesus asks Peter who he believes He is. Of course Peter responds, “Thou art the Christ, the Son of the Living God”. Wow, he nailed it. The scripture goes on to say that Peter was blessed and that this very thing was revealed by the Father in heaven.

We now have the Holy Bible which is full of knowledge. 2 Peter 1:20-21 tells us that the men who wrote such scriptures wrote these things under the guidance of the Holy Spirit. Since it is perfect, we need to apply it to our hearts (Psa 119:11) and use it to give answers to some of those tough questions that people have.

In closing, I just want to say that if you are looking for biblical answers and someone isn’t prepared to offer scripture to support their response, then either do some research on their answer or look elsewhere. We are responsible for the choices we make, so we can’t go pointing fingers if we get something wrong. However, we don’t want to be on the other side of the stick either and be the one giving the wrong answers. So make sure you do thorough research on any questions you may have and please stay safe in Christ. God bless.

1 Thes 5:21 Prove all things; hold fast that which is good.
