Camping: An Excellent Way to Experience God Personally

When you have gone to all the summer parties, visited all the theme parks, and have hosted one too many backyard barbeques, it’s time to go camping. You might not have thought about camping, but it’s actually a wonderful weekend activity. It can be a fun adventure with lots of great outdoor entertainment for the entire family. What better way to learn about or rediscover God’s amazing creation of nature, than to experience it personally?

God took the time to create this world for us. He worked one day at a time. Nothing was formed by accident, our God was deliberate and very meticulous with all His designs and sculptures. He made the forest from scratch (Genesis 1:11-12). Our Creator, then formed the creatures who would call the forest home—both in the sea and on land (Genesis 1:20-22, 24-25). When He was finished, He stepped back, assessed it, and saw that it was good.

Then men decided to intervene with buildings, highways, and technology. Gradually, God’s majestic creation of nature, slowly faded into the background. Both adults and children alike, get so caught up in the comfort and luxury of this modernized world, that they tend to disregard the natural beauty and value of God’s green earth.

Why not unplug?

Take the entire family and spend a weekend in the wild. You can teach the kids or learn together, how to raise up tents and start as well as put out fires. Make meals on the open flames and enjoy the fruits and herbs straight from the vines and trees. Take hikes and revel in the beauty of God’s handiwork. Then fall asleep under the stars to the sound of a babbling brook, crickets chirping, birds singing, or all of the above! With no internet access, tablets, iPods, and laptops are useless. As a result, campers are only left with their words. This presents the perfect opportunity to make conversations; there’s enough time to catch up with the family and simply enjoy each others’ company.

Camping gives us a chance to rekindle our love with God. It’s easy to get lost in His presence and His words when there are no distractions around. In addition, camping helps to strengthen the bond between family members. It brings about a special togetherness that only nature can achieve. You may come home with a little back pain and a few mosquito bites, but the benefits you reap will be worth it.

“Who hath measured the waters in the hollow of his hand, and meted out heaven with the span, and comprehended the dust of the earth in a measure, and weighed the mountains in scales, and the hills in a balance?” (Isaiah 40:12)

When have you gone camping and appreciated God’s creation personally? What other ways do you enjoy nature?
