He’s All Powerful, Yet So Patient

What if God would just give us a shock every time we got out of line, wouldn’t that change us?  He has the power to do it.  He is all-powerful, the Master and Creator of the Universe.  He could.  How about every time we told a lie, our nose really would grow?

However, if we were like puppets on a string, getting zapped every time we made a mistake, we might do the right things all the time, but it would not be out of love or from the heart.  It would be out of fear or like robotics.  We would not get the chance to be authentic.  Our hearts would never truly change if He chose to control us in such a way.  He will only ask for our love and friendship, He will never demand it.  One day everyone will confess the Truth, but today He is waiting for us to choose Him for all the right reasons.  He has given us the most overlooked and under appreciated gift … the gift of free will.

Deuteronomy speaks of our gift of choice:

“Look, today I am giving you the choice between a blessing and a curse!  You will be blessed if you obey the commands of the Lord your God that I am giving you today.  But you will be cursed if you reject the commands of the Lord you God and turn from Him and worship gods you have not known before.” Deuteronomy 11:26-28 (NLT)

I have made many poor choices, some came with serious consequences and that is what reminds me to be careful with my free will, with my choices.  As we grow older we learn that God searches every heart and understands every motive.  We will not always get things right, we will fall short at times, but He won’t evaluate us only by what we do.  He looks deeper.  Even through our bad choices, God still loves us.  He is patient.

Won’t you make a choice today to acknowledge the One who created you?

  1. Lindsey,

Yes he is patient and gives us freewill. It is a perfect relationship we have with Creator, especially when we are connected through Jesus Christ our Lord. But it is amazing the He loved us, even when we were classified as sinners. Thanks for delivering a very important message. God bless.
