Evidence that the nation of America has lost its way abounds. Having closed our eyes to the Truth, we fumble for answers. Amid reports of falsified documents to disguise the truth behind veteran deaths, we hear, too, of VA approval for the sex change operation of a convicted traitor. Government officials respond to questions with evasive answers about processes and taking action as allowed…unable or unwilling to speak (let alone do) what is right.
Moral absolutes are not politically correct. In America, right and wrong are situational, personal and define-able only by processes. Having removed God as the authority for America, no chance remains but to deify political double-speak and micro-analysis of legal maneuverings. Politics sit on the throne of America and death reigns.
Moses and Joshua spoke to the nation of Israel with words we need in America:
I call heaven and earth to record this day against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore choose life, that both thou and thy seed may live: (Deuteronomy 30:19)
Every human being desires life; the Creator built that into our design. Yet good desires and intentions based upon personal opinions have no lasting value. We are a nation of individuals who will only find unity in the Truth. As individual Christians, we must seek the face of God to know the response He desires. We must live lives that testify to His glory, never elevating our opinions or demands. We must not argue or focus on blame. None of that reflects the Spirit of Christ. Silence in the face of accusations, refusal to engage in fruitless dialog and pure forgiveness in the face of hatred & error constitute the character of the Spirit. We must cry out to God and receive His Spirit that life will return to our nation through us.
Many Christians quote the verse of promise in 2 Chronicles 7:14. But often, we pray asking forgiveness of the sins of our nation without humbly seeing our own sins. We must allow the conviction of the Spirit to reveal where our thoughts and reactions are not in His Spirit. The healing of the land begins with we who bear the name of Christ. Our hearts must tune to the Holy Spirit. As Oswald Chambers eloquently reminds us, our calling is not to convert people to our opinions—but to Jesus Christ. The Spirit must guide not only our understanding of right and wrong, it must wisely instruct us on the godly response to wrong.
But ask now the beasts, and they shall teach thee; and the fowls of the air, and they shall tell thee: (Job 12:7)
We have a beautiful source of humble instruction in the Praying Mantis insect. Thought for years to be deaf, scientists now know the Mantis has a single ear located in the center of its chest. In the ungodly chaos of our nation, we need ears centered on the heart of God. There is a right response to all but only the Spirit can give it. As we look at the wrongs of the world, might we then look into heaven and ask God what heavenly resource He wants us to use to right the wrong. Vengeance is His—but every spiritual blessing is ours. Let us use them!
