Dear Beloved of God: You’ve Got Mail

Dear Beloved of God …

If God wrote you a letter, what would you want it to say? Perhaps you would want Him to tell you things concerning your future: what you will do, if you will be successful—will your dreams come true? Maybe you would want Him to comfort and reassure you, or maybe you would want to hear whether or not He is pleased with how your life is turning out!

Most of us have never given thought to receiving a letter from God, but He has written one to each of us and it is  filled with His promises and the absolute truths of life.  The Bible holds many well-known and oft-quoted scriptures. But there are many beautiful passages that reveal aspects of God not as familiar to us. In Deuteronomy 33:12, there is one such verse:

Of Benjamin he said: The beloved of the Lord shall dwell in safety by Him; He covers him all the day long, and makes His dwelling between his shoulders.

God expresses His love for us in this descriptive passage of Scripture by comparing His protection towards us with that of a father protecting his beloved children by keeping them close—between his own shoulders.  Picture a father walking in a crowd of strangers on a busy street: he lifts his child onto his back and holds the child securely as he navigates the surroundings—the child holding on in trust to the father’s strong shoulders.

This is God’s love for us—His beloved. He keeps His own close to Himself, providing borders of protection and the covering of His presence. When  you feel far away from Him, even believing that He cannot love you–the truth is that He does love you–that He  waits to extend His love, forgiveness, and  protection to you today.

Maybe you cannot understand the picture of God’s love and protection in Deuteronomy 33:12. Perhaps you did not experience the love and protection you needed from your own father–making God seem distant.  Now is the time to reach out to God and allow Him to be your perfect Father. Start by reading His letter to you

Do you believe that God’s Word is for you–your very own letter from Him?  If you feel far from Him, what can you do today to move towards Him?
