Sheriff Deputy’s Act of Kindness Goes Above and Beyond

With all the law enforcement bashing we have experienced for the past several months, years even, it is refreshing to hear praise of an officer who went the extra mile.  And it is always wonderful to hear of the good deeds people do out of the kindness that lies within their hearts.

This event took place in Ohio just last month.  Sheriff’s Deputy Zach Ropos was on duty, saw a little girl’s lemonade stand, and decided it was time to quench his thirst.  So he stopped and bought a lemonade from a little girl named Gabrielle.

Deputy Ropos struck up a conversation with Gabrielle, asking her what she intended to do with all the money she made.  She explained that her family had been having some financial problems recently, and she wanted an iPad to help with her school work and to play games on.  So she thought perhaps she might be able to pay for the iPad with the proceeds from her lemonade sales. The deputy could tell the little girl was serious, and she was determined to do her best to achieve her goal.

After his shift that night, Deputy Ropos went home and took a look at an older model iPad he had. However, it was not in working order.  So what did he do?  He went out and bought Gabrielle a brand new one!

When the deputy presented the iPad to Gabrielle, she was, of course, very excited.  This alone was enough to make Deputy Ropos feel good about his deed.  But when the girl’s mother told him that Gabrielle had just given all the money she had made to buy gas for the car, it pleased him even more.  He realized the heart of the girl was more than generous, to lay aside her own wants in the best interests of her family.

Deputy Ropos made a difference, in the life of Gabrielle, and in the lives of her family.  His totally selfless act of kindness came back to be a blessing to him as well.

Many times we hear of acts of kindness.  But this one just tugs at the heartstrings when you consider this deputy, who most likely experiences less-than-kind treatment daily, went that extra mile to make a difference where he could, how he could.  What began with a simple glass of lemonade ended with the blessing of kindness.  He is to be commended.

Jesus taught that we are to do acts of kindness.  We are to give to others, help others, and love others, without thought to what we may gain.  We are to perform these works for the Lord with a generous heart. After all, when He went to the cross for us He showed the greatest kindness.

“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.  Against such things there is no law.” Galatians 5:22
