The Love Poem (Based on 1 Corinthians 13)

To the church of Corinth Paul did write,
For the topic of love he did fight.

Many say the Apostle Paul was never wed,
I am in doubt because of the beautiful words he spread.

He shared some of the greatest wisdom on love,
It was truly an inspired gift from above.

Love is patient, love is kind,
But so much more, as we will find.

It does not envy or boast, and is not proud,
If it were, the heart it would cloud.

Love does not dishonor and isn’t self-seeking,
When Paul wrote this, it was the Holy Spirit speaking.

Love is not easily provoked and does not keep record of wrongs,
Instead it joins people together and makes them want to sing songs.

Love does not delight in evil, but in truth it does rejoice,
In honor of love, let’s lift up our voice.

Love always protects, trusts, hopes, and perseveres,
We are even told that it casts out our fears.

Prophecies, tongues, and knowledge are said to pass away,
Love, however, will always be here to stay.

For we know and prophesy in part, till perfection arrives,
Then that what was once in part will disappear in our lives.

When I was young, I talked, thought, and reasoned like a child,
But when I became older, something new in me was riled.

You see, we start off seeing things dimly in a mirror,
But love gives great vision in what it will share.

When we become mature, three things will remain,
Faith, hope and love, are what will reign.

As we close, we find The greatest of these is love,
And the greatest example of this is God from above.

John 3:16-17 For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.

Fun Fact:

There are four types of love that we find in the Holy Bible. Let’s learn them.

*Eros (Erotic love) Ex. SOS 2:3-5
*Storge (Family love) Ex. Luke 15:11-32
*Phileo (Brotherly love) Ex. Rom 12:10
*Agape (Unconditional love) Ex. Romans 5:8

Note: The word “Storge” isn’t specifically mentioned in the Holy Bible, but it is demonstrated.

Who are some people in your life that you can love on today?

*Written in honor of my parents who had their 44th wedding anniversary on June 25th.
