We are often told we are unique and special,
As if we are better than others in some way.
That we should follow our dreams and desires,
And make sure we always seize the day.
We are encouraged to become whoever in life we want,
And that we must listen to our heart and follow what we truly feel.
As if our dreams and goals and life ambitions,
Are the only things in life that are real.
The problem with putting all our hope into a future vision
Is that our present life is often quickly overpassed.
Besides, as the old poem so truthfully states,
Only what is done for Christ will last.
Life is about so much more than just following
Our vain pursuits and selfish ambitions.
Christ said to be the greatest we must love and serve one another,
And fulfill the great commission.
Visions and goals do serve a purpose and we should always
Hold ourselves to a higher standard and ideal.
But the standard is Christ and anything less won’t cut it,
No matter what we think or how we feel.
Sometimes we must give up our dreams and surrender our lives and future,
If we truly wish to live our purpose and realize our life’s mission.
Our true identity is found in Christ alone so to avoid the fall that follows pride,
Humility should always be our disposition.
For our lives are but a vapor that appears for a short while,
And then quickly vanishes away.
Our time is a precious currency we must spend with care,
And our pursuits and priorities we must always weigh.
Do our current activities seek to bring glory
To ourselves or our magnificent Creator and Lord?
For treasure in heaven, not treasure on earth,
Is what our daily actions should move us toward.
What is the goal of your life? How do your individual days reflect your ultimate goal?
