It’s Your Right – Now Choose

Deuteronomy 30:19-20 (VOICE) Moses: 19 I’m calling on the heavens and the earth to be the witnesses against you. I gave you the choice today between life and death, between being blessed or being cursed. Choose life, so that you and your descendants may live! 20 If you love the Eternal your God and listen to His voice and always remain loyal to Him, for He, is your life, then you’ll be able to live a long time in the land the Eternal promised to give to your ancestors Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.

Whether we choose to acknowledge it or not, this is the foundation of our liberty. We are free to choose how we will live. Our Judeo-Christian heritage (which so many would like to deny) supports our ‘right to choose’. It does not, however, support the right to not experience the consequences of our choices. We cannot choose to be born, or who our parents will be. God chooses for us. We choose what we do with the life he gives us. When we choose to seek God He will find us. When we choose to follow Him we choose a life of blessing. Seeking to go our own way is rebellion. If we choose to rebel against God we choose the curse of death.

God calls us to live a holy life – to live as Christ lived. He could have created us and not given us a choice. But He didn’t. He wants us to follow Him. He loves us. He wants our love and worship in return. If it is not freely given, however, it is neither love nor worship. It is not difficult to follow God’s laws. We do not feel bound by the law because, if we are in Christ, it is where we desire to be.

Matthew 11:29-30 (NLT) 29 “Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy to bear, and the burden I give you is light.”

Every day we hear of an individual or group suing to overturn a law they perceive to be a violation of their rights. The court may or may not agree depending on the judge’s ideology and interpretation of the law. We need not demand that God recognize our rights. He already does. Whether we choose to believe and obey or deny and rebel there will be consequences.

Choose to seek. Choose to follow. Choose Jesus Christ. Choose blessing.

Choose LIFE.
