Knowledge Without Truth

We are approaching “that moment in mankind’s history when all the advances in technology, particularly in artificial intelligence (AI) will lead to machines that are smarter than human beings.” This is a statement by Ray Kurzwell, Google’s Director of Engineering.  Furthermore, the year 2045 has been targeted for multiplying “our effective intelligence a billion fold by merging with the intelligence we have created,” says Kurzwell.

The Bible says in Daniel 12:4 that “knowledge will increase” in the days leading up to the Tribulation and the return of Christ, but the dramatic increase in knowledge goes beyond the fulfillment of prophecy. One theologian has referred to this as  “a slap in the face of God.” It is a reflection of a world culture void of God – a reflection of accomplishing great things with no acknowledgement of the Creator who gave the ability to obtain that knowledge.

I see this as sort of being like the Tower of Babel mentioned in Genesis 11:1-9. The people said, “let us make for ourselves a name” and were purposing in their hearts to do the impossible, out of defiance toward God. Well, God put a stop to it by confusing the people with different languages.

The article from which I quoted also mentioned putting computers inside our brains! However, consider what the human brain is already capable of doing:

* It contains an estimated 86 billion brain cells.

* Each neuron connects an average of 40,000 synapses.

*A piece of brain tissue the size of a grain of sand contains 100,00 neurons and 1 billion synapses, all in communication together.

*Brain information can move up to 268 mph.

(50 Amazing Brain Facts(based on the latest science), by Deane Alban.

With all of this and much more, people don’t even come close to using their full potential.

God has created each and everyone of us with a marvelous brain. There is no improvement necessary! It is up to each of us to put to the best use what God has given us. It is because of our brain that we can realize our unique skills and gifts. We can dream and imagine. And yes, we can even do the “impossible.”

The problem is that people are “always learning and never able to come to a knowledge of the truth,” as it states in II Timothy 3:7. When there is a realization that spiritual truth can transform lives, there is no need to continually strive for multiplying “our effective intelligence a billion fold.”  There will be a satisfaction with just knowing God.

How about you? Are you more focused on amassing great amounts of intelligence, or coming to a knowledge of spiritual truth that can help you realize all that God intends you to be?

  1. Well done! Good read! ~ron,

  2. Great article (as usual) John.
Young people are told, “You ‘have to’ get a college education.” So they incur massive amounts of debt only to receive (in many instances) a virtually worthless degree, – except for the highly specialized professions. God is the source of all wisdom. Wisdom cannot be learned until it is sought. And all the intelligence of the world is meaningless without the ability to use it wisely.
