It Started with Cornflakes

God is looking for those who would be faithful in the little things, for it shows Him that He can trust us with much. The story of one man’s small beginnings started with the creation of a cereal flake made of boiled corn, salt, and sugar. His success over several years led to the creation of the Battle Creek Toasted Corn Flake Company in 1906. By the early 1920’s, Mr. W.K. Kellogg was known as the “Cereal King of America.” Today, Kellogg’s Corn Flakes Cereal is as popular as ever at the American breakfast table!

When the Cereal King established the W.K. Kellogg Foundation in 1930, he made its focus the health and wellbeing of children. Kellogg donated over $60 million dollars to his foundation in the waning years of his life. He had started by filling cereal bowls with a new and nutritious cold cereal, but he continued on to help many children by investing his vast resources in their care.  Mr. W.K. Kellogg’s character was one of generosity, honesty, and a strong work ethic. He did not give up in the early years, or rest on the success found in a bowl of cereal.

Character is important, and it shows itself in every area of our lives, especially those that may seem insignificant.  God takes it seriously and considers it in each life before he bestows blessings upon us:

 “If you are faithful in little things, you will be faithful in large ones. But if you are dishonest in little things, you won’t be honest with greater responsibilities.”  Luke 16:10

Every one of us must show ourselves faithful in little things before God will trust us with greater blessings from His Hand. But we will never regret the decision to treasure small beginnings.
