How to Pull Off the Best Summer Parties

The ice is finally melting and the sun is celebrating in all its glory. Bring on the summer parties!

In all honesty, a good party can make any season sizzle. Still, the easy going atmosphere, vibrant colors, and warm weather of summer makes parties even hotter. Ephesians 5:18 warns, “Don’t be drunk with wine, because that will ruin your life. Instead, be filled with the Holy Spirit.” Keep in mind that awesome parties aren’t defined by booze, drunkards, or rowdy music. However, a great party needs more than just a great season to be categorized as such.

Effective planning and strategic implementation are the secret ingredients for repeatedly creating unforgettable summer parties. Now, these get-togethers aren’t “fancy-pansy” cocktail parties or elaborate soirees, so calm down. You don’t always need themes, color schemes, invitation cards, and the likes. It’s okay to leave a little room for loud laughter and flip-flops. Spontaneity should be welcomed at all stages.

The best place to start is deciding when you want to have the summer blast. Ensure the date and time does not collide with the events of others. This is important since the last thing any host wants, is a party without people. Then be sure to give everyone enough notice so they can mark it on their calendar and plan around it.

On the day of the party, follow the guidelines on the list below:

• After being imprisoned indoors by winter, it’s safe to say, everything is better outdoors in the summer. Keep the party outside.
• Recognize that you can’t do it alone and assign tasks to others.
• Create an ambiance in which Jesus is welcome to stop by anytime.
• Nature is lovely, but it burns and bites. Have sunscreen and bug spray handy for guests.
• Provide good, clean, dance-all-day-and-night music.
• Have multiple activities and games available—Bible trivia are no exception.
• Needless to say, it’s going to be hot. Make sure guests have enough beverages to stay hydrated.
• There can never be too much food. Try introducing a new recipe to the mix to spice things up.
• Be a good host. Mix and mingle, and good summer parties will follow you.
• Go all out—on a budget. There will be bills to pay tomorrow.

“So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.” (1 Corinthians 10:31)
