Yes, You Can–Believing For The Impossible

Do you ever get stuck in the world of: “I can’t make it. I can’t do it. I can’t get through it.”? I know I do.

We all do from time to time. Maybe we get stuck because we are facing a trial that seems impossible to overcome. Or maybe we grow impatient or weary and give up trying. Or perhaps it’s simply because get lost wallowing through the opinions of others and can’t make a decision. Whatever the case, when we get stuck, it ultimately keeps us from moving forward into the plans that God has for us.

One verse that I call upon quite often in my own Christian walk, when faced with such a scenario, is Philippians 4:13. It seems to be the “catch-all” verse for such situations, and it is short and sweet, so it’s easy to remember. In fact, it’s probably the very first Bible verse that I taught to my children, and likely one of the main ones they still recall to this day. “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” With emphasis this time—“I can do ALL things through CHRIST who strengthens me.”

It certainly is a good verse, but at the most difficult times in my life, it becomes even more useful to take it up a notch. That’s what I challenged my own family to do on our prayer call this week. We’ve faced some very trying situations over the last week and new ones are brewing on the horizon. But thanks be to God, we can overcome because we CAN do all things.

So what is the challenge?

I challenged them to get really specific with that verse. I said to them, “Replace the word ALL with whatever that thing is that you believe is trying to overtake you.”

So when the hard college exam is coming up: “I can pass this exam through Christ who strengthens me.” Or, “I can be nice to my less-than-friendly neighbor through Christ who strengthens me.”

“I can make it this financial hardship.” Or, “I can overcome this relationship issue.”

Why get specific? I just believe it helps to give you more focus. And having that kind of focus can be quite important in helping you make it through to the other side. It also creates an attitude that says if God says I can, then I can!

Now does that mean everything is going to be easy? No, but it does mean that, through Christ, you can gain the strength you need at just the moment that you need it. He is always with you, cheering you on, and that’s a wonderful thing!

To help get you motivated today, I’d like to leave you with a Marvin Sapp song called “Yes You Can,” (RCA Records, January 2015). It’s an uplifting song with lyrics that say, “They thought that I’d be weak, but you made me strong. They thought that I would crumble, but they were so wrong.” Yes, I can relate to that. How about you?

So how about it? Are you up for the challenge? Take a listen, and I pray that no matter what you may going through, this song will give you a boost of encouragement to help lighten your load. And always remember the words of Philippians 4:13. They will help you to remember that when it comes to doing all things--Yes You Can!

What seemingly impossible challenge are you facing right now?
