Believers Needn’t Fear God’s Wrath

But let man and beast be covered with sackcloth, and cry mightily unto God: yea, let them turn every one from his evil way, and from the violence that is in their hands. Who can tell if God will turn and repent, and turn away from his fierce anger, that we perish not? And God saw their works, that they turned from their evil way; and God repented of the evil, that he had said that he would do unto them; and he did it not, Jonah 3:8-10.

Sodom and Gomorrah could have been saved like Nineveh if there had been more faithful followers than Lot’s family. Lot’s family was saved because he followed God, yet his own wife turned away as they fled the destruction, and Lot had to continue without her. His own daughters had to give up their husbands (Genesis 19:14) when they fled Sodom because they knew their father was a righteous man and that he spoke the truth of God. Society has a strong sway on many of our decisions as we sojourn through this lifetime, but we must never forget that this journey is only a means to get to the Promised Land, our Eternal Home.

We send postcards to loved ones when we go on trips, evidence of where we have been and what we did while we were there. Our witness as Christians is much the same, it is a way to let others know what we are up to, and allows us to share the understanding we have gained through the lessons God has taught us. Understanding why God has placed us in a given situation allows us the opportunity to help one another through the troublesome times that will take us to our permanent homes.

That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him: The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints, And what is the exceeding greatness of his power to us-ward who believe, according to the working of his mighty power, Ephesians 1:17-19.

For many years we have been wearing ourselves out trying to recover from a society that has been slipping further and further into the mire of sin. The only thing keeping the US from slipping into total chaos is the prayers of the Saints. We needn’t live in fear that the US will fall under the wrath of God because there are many believers still in the US. We have no reason to fear that the immorality of the US is going to lead us to destruction. God is more powerful than that, evil will not take over unless we allow it, only when we give up on God can true wrath fall upon our heads. As Christians we shouldn’t fear that evil will take over, it has no hold over us, and it’s what Jesus Christ died for. He destroyed sin at the cross, so in effect sin no longer exists unless we permit it to overcome us.

As Christians we shouldn’t be giving Satan credit for our shortcomings; by blaming him for our sins, we are in effect giving him the glory for making us who we are, when in effect he has no power over us unless God allows it, and God always provides a way of escape, (1 Corinthians 10:13). We must learn to rely on the confidence we have in the Lord, He destroyed evil and evil cannot touch us unless we allow it by following through with any temptation that blocks our path, (James 1:14). We must not give Satan recognition for the dark moments in our lives; he lost his power at the cross when he thought he had finally won- just remember who holds the keys to Death and Hell, (Revelation 1:18). Christ has the keys, and Satan is simply a roaring lion, and when a lion roars you know where he is and he cannot attack you as long as you avoid him. Do not fear the lion’s roar, fear He who created that lion to roar.

I pray, right now that God, through the Holy Spirit, and in the Name of Jesus Christ will give us the wisdom we need and the courage to face temptation head on without yielding to its draw, and without giving credit to our dark enemy, who no longer has power over us because of what Christ did for us at Calvary.

How often do you blame Satan for your shortcomings, and what do you do to counteract his deceptive ways?
