Checkup Time For Your Heart, Emotions and Thinking Powers!

Have you considered your heart lately? How about your emotions and your thinking powers? Like a physical checkup with your doctor, it can be tempting to put off a spiritual checkup to see what is going on inside. But just as it can be dangerous to put off a physical checkup, it can be even more dangerous to put off a checkup of the inner man. And God is very aware of what we may not yet see:

Oh, let the wickedness of the wicked come to an end, but establish the (uncompromisingly) righteous (those upright and in harmony with You); for You, Who try the hearts and emotions and thinking powers, are a righteous God.  Psalm 7:9

The Bible describes the heart as  the innermost man. God reminds us that our hearts are naturally wicked and deceitful—we need His help to  really know our own intentions. Conviction is never stronger than in those times when we realize that an attitude or belief comes from deep inside of us, driven to the surface by things around us.

Emotions seem to show up at all the wrong times! I have days, when my emotions spill over, that I long for God to step in and control them for me.  It’s the guilt that follows a loss of control that leaves us feeling defeated—back at square one!

There are days when I wish God couldn’t read my mind! But the Bible tells us that He knows every thought before we think it. He knows the righteous ones: true, just, kind, and loving, and He knows the unrighteous ones: angry, jealous, and judgmental. Nothing is hidden from Him.

What can we do about our heart, our emotions, and the thoughts we think that are so powerful they drive us to action? Part of the answer is to be aware of what is going on inside of us.  Prayer and study of God’s Word show us where we need to be. And we can put our trust in God–Who tries the heart, emotions, and thoughts within.

There is usually hesitation  in visiting the doctor to be assured  you are in good health–will they find a hidden problem? And we often feel the same when it comes to checking in with God to discover where we are on the inside. Will we be convicted of hidden sin? Still, health and growth require a checkup …

God cares about you–and about your physical and spiritual health. Do you desire health in your inner man–your emotions and thoughts? Have you “checked in” with God lately through prayer and reading His Word?

Please leave a prayer request with us if we can be of help in your journey!
