Do You Love Me?

Do You Love Me?

By Joel B.

If you were given the chance to walk beside the King of Kings and Lord of Lords, do you think you would ever deny Him? Well that’s exactly what Peter did. Immediately after Peter stated that he would never deny Christ, he went out and denied Him three times, then the cock crowed. However, I would assert that it was out of fear and not an attempt to separate himself from the love he had for Jesus.

Oftentimes Christians fall under persecution and they are put under pressure to deny their faith in Jesus Christ. How would you react if you were put in this situation? Would you fold like Peter who walked side-by-side Jesus? Well, we do walk with Jesus because we have Him in our hearts. That’s right. We experience the presence of the Living Savior 24/7, yet some of us really do struggle like Peter.

Something we need to remember is that this life is but a vapor. It is just a speck compared to what eternity is. We are sometimes expected to suffer for short periods of times, but it can be draining. However, we must push forward with the understanding that we have something so perfect and precious to share with the world, and that is the love of Jesus Christ.

Something very important happened between Jesus and Peter after the Resurrection. Jesus asked Peter three times, “Do you love me?”. Have you ever wondered why he asked him three times? Well, I would suggest it was because Peter denied him three times, so He allowed Peter to express his heart-felt love three times. Peter must’ve been in tears over the love he felt for Jesus at that moment! His fear was replaced by love, and remember that perfect love casts out fear. This was a perfect example of this.

Friends, sometimes we face hard times, but let’s not forget Jesus’ perfect love for us. Let’s not forget to do our best to love Him perfectly. He knows we make mistakes at times, even to the point some may deny Him out of fear. If you’ve done something like this, just tell Christ how much you love Him and let the love you share cast out any fear you might have. Thank you for reading and God bless.
