Freedom from the Lies of Satan

One of my favorite verses is John 8:32: “And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.” Jesus came to set us free from sin and redeem us from the power of the devil. As we receive a revelation of truth, we are set free in Him.

If knowing the truth sets us free, then the opposite is also true: believing a lie will place us in bondage.

Satan is described this way in John 8:44 (NIV): “When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies.” He is always whispering lies. His very nature is to lie and deceive, and he is looking for ways to plant his lies into our hearts and minds.

He lies to us about God; trying to tell us that God can’t really be good, or that He can’t really love us. He lies to us about ourselves; trying to convince us that we can’t be forgiven, or that we are disqualified from being used by God. He lies to us about God’s Word; planting doubts and fears, and asking the age-old question, “Did God really say?” (See Genesis 3:1).

Satan is a liar and he will continually try to bring us into captivity through his lies. Many people are not walking in the freedom that Jesus has for them simply because they have believed a lie. But his lies do not have to influence us. They only have power over us if we believe them. If we reject the lies, they lose their influence; if we believe the lies, we become enslaved by them.

What lies have you believed? Are there areas of your life that you have allowed the enemy to get a foothold? Have you come into agreement with the devil by believing his lies?

Ask the Holy Spirit to expose any lie of the enemy that you have believed. Then, repent of believing the lie, renounce it, and replace it with the truth of God’s word. Learn to recognize the voice of the devil, so that when he comes you can resist him with the truth.

As you receive a revelation of truth, you will experience the freedom that Jesus paid for on the cross!
