God, Speak To Me!

God, speak to me.  Have you ever uttered those infamous words?  God has probably heard them in every language. . . more than once in each, I suspect!

Just the other night before bed, I was bemoaning the unfortunate fact that I had been so busy that I had been putting God towards the bottom of my “priority list”.  I knew He would understand.  Earlier in the day, a friend happened to mention that she was making time to spend with God.  That hit home in a powerful way.  So, now I was making time this evening to spend with Him.

Remembering the intimacy in our relationship from previous times,  I prayed, “Speak to me again, oh God, give me ears to hear…to hear the words I and others need to hear about You being on the move.”  Simple, yet sincere.  Immediately, I felt the urge to pray in the spiritual language that God inspires.  (Acts 2:4)  Since His word says there should be an interpretation when one prays like this, I spoke out, afterwards,  the words (in English) that seemed to just flow from my heart and mind. (1 Corinthians 14:13)

“You are the Almighty God.  You lift up the nations and You bring them low.  (1 Samuel 2:7)  You bring forth the yield from what they sow.  You make the hind to calve (Psalm 29:9) and bring forth the mighty warrior to move among the nations to do Your bidding.  You are the great I AM who moves among the people pleading and wooing them to come out and be separate from the heathen, the unbelieving.  (Exodus 3:14You make the way.  You show the way.  You protect the way for men to walk therein.”  (John 14:6)

I prayed again in the spiritual language, and then, I believe, it was interpreted as follows (in English).  “Give us hearts and minds that are hungry to walk those ways – Your ways – to follow Your lead, to walk in victory, to learn more about You so we are able to discern and understand the signs of the times. (Matthew 16:3)   Make us hungry for Your presence.  Let nothing less satisfy our souls.  Give us yielded wills to do Your bidding.  Open our blind eyes to see Your response to our cries.  In Jesus’ name, bring forth Your servants to the work You have prescribed.  Make us effective and fruitful for Your glory. The time is short and we have much to accomplish, according to Your will, before You come.  (Romans 13:11) You are coming quickly and Your scepter is in Your hand.  Your house (temple/us) needs to be ready.  Move on us, Lord, to follow Your lead.  Don’t let Your servants get in the way of Your mighty, perfect move by taking things into our own hands.  Let us simply listen, hear, obey, follow, and trust as You show us what You would have us do.”

The amazing part of this few minutes, purposefully asking God to speak to me, was that within seconds He responded – speaking specifically to my prayer.  (Isaiah 65:24)  I didn’t even realize it until I read over what I had written down.  I was awestruck.  I suppose I shouldn’t have been, but sometimes He just boggles my mind.

Almighty God wants His children to hear what He has to say.  Do you want God to speak to you?  Sincerely ask, then believe.  He is all too eager to share His heart and mind through His word, and specifically to you and me, when we ask.  Learn to listen.  Keep a keen ear primed to hear His voice.  He is on the move and He is speaking.  Are you listening?

  1. Stephanie H,

I believe God is always listening and is always trying to speak to us, except for those times when He knows we need a time of silence. I think a lot of this is just realizing that God knows best and having faith even when we would just be happy to have God scream at us. He is always faithful, even when we are not and always has our best interest in mind. Thanks so much for sharing. God bless.

    • Thanks for your comment, Joel. Isn’t it great that our God is able to see through all our “stuff” and then always responds lovingly and wisely as He deems necessary? I am blessed!
