God Still Gives Divine Revelation Through His Word

Ever have a sudden revelation about a Scripture or some part of God’s Word? Something even that you have been pondering and suddenly the light bulb goes on?

The Word of God is alive and when you read it, the Author is right there with you, and we know God doesn’t change so what He did before He can do again.

Peter said of the prophets and prophecy:

“For prophecy never had its origin in the human will, but prophets, though human, spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.” 2 Peter 1:21 (NIV).

And Paul wrote to Timothy these words:

“All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:” 2 Timothy 3:16 (KJV)

When I first began to read my Bible 10 years ago, I would wonder sometimes what certain passages meant. For example, I couldn’t understand why God would harden Pharaoh’s heart when He wanted him to release the Israelites from their slavery in Egypt. That didn’t make sense to me. Then one day, all of a sudden, I realized God did that so it would be clear that it was God Who saved them and set them free. (And yes I know now the text says this but I either I didn’t read it, or I was thinking something else when I read it!)

Another time I was moved when reading my Bible to quickly jot down something that came to me as I was reading and I ran to write it down and I heard God say, “This is how I wrote the Bible.” The writers of the Bible wanted to record what God had said or done, but I’m sure none of them ever dreamed we would be reading their words thousands of years later.

I think also of men and women preaching and teaching God’s word who have had their influence spread unto perpetuity, men like A.W. Tozer, whose passion was preaching and writing about the Gospel, completely unaware that his words would live on long after he had gone to his reward, and many others like him.

If you are thinking, “I’m no A.W. Tozer,” neither was he. He wasn’t a man seeking notoriety. He was just a man doing what God called him to do the best he knew how.

I was writing an article about Jesus as the suffering servant and the heavens opened up and I had an amazing revelation of the parallels between Jesus and Adam that took my breath away and I knew it was divine revelation. A professor friend of mine informed me that many have written about this, but I was unfazed because it may have been written about, but I had never read it. So, I suppose it wasn’t the first time God opened the Scriptures and spoke about this, so I feel blessed to be in their company by the grace of God.

You don’t have to be a famous pastor or a scholar to hear from God and receive His teaching. You just have to be willing. Hey, if God can make a donkey talk, why not you?

Can you think of something specific and special that God revealed to you?
