Mercy On Life’s Stormy Sea

I am under the impression that when the Lord gives a rich nugget from His treasure chest of heaven, He intends for it to be shared with others.  So I am taking this opportunity to share with you the blessing the Lord bestowed upon me a few weeks ago.

While praying one morning, the Lord seemed to impress upon me the word mercy.  I gave the topic some in-depth thought.  I wondered if it was personal or national?  Was I to give mercy in a specific instance or would I be receiving the mercy?  Was it a “now” mercy opportunity or a “future” one?    As I went on about my day, all thoughts of “the mercy topic” gave way to the immediate.  Then, surprisingly, I found myself humming a little tune with these words.

Make a way, oh, Lord, through the stormy sea.  Make a way oh, Lord, have mercy on me.

Take my hand, I pray, lead me safe all the way to the heart of your will for me.

Over and over it ran in my mind.  It was soothing and encouraging.  I couldn’t shake it.  It became ‘background” music for all my other thoughts and activities throughout that day and many days since.  Although there was an aspect of those words that tended to raise a bit of concern, there was also a peace that prevailed.

The melody and message continued to dominate my sub-conscience.  It seemed to be on a loop through my mind…feeding and strengthening my soul.  Being the songwriter that I am, I was aware that there was still a piece missing.  The Holy Spirit graciously lead me to pen these additional words…

For You are holy, righteous, and forgiving.  You are worthy, omniscient, and able…

We all have or will have stormy seas “seasons” along our journey through this life.  And I believe it is an important prayer to invite the loving Lord into those situations when they arise. (Psalm 50:15)   If we are holding His hand, He has promised to lead us into His perfect will for us.  He, being a holy, righteous, and forgiving God, has all the qualifications to lovingly lead us.  (Psalm 86:5)  We can trust Him, His heart, and His intentions.  He is totally worthy.  Since He knows all things from the beginning to the end and the end to the beginning, with sweet abandon we can peacefully fall into His merciful arms and let Him bring His perfect will to pass.  (Romans 11:33)  He will never leave nor forsake us. (Deuteronomy 31:6, Luke 12:32)  We can trust that no matter what happens, the final picture will position us right in the center of His will.

I hope you are encouraged.  If you are experiencing any stormy sea and  think you would be strengthened by this little chorus from God’s treasure chest, I have attached a very simple, 60 second vocal rendition for you.  I’m sure God would love to bless you, too.
