Out of the Dark into The Light

Since the beginning of time, God has highlighted the difference between light and darkness.

“In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. The earth was without form, and void; and darkness was on the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters. Then God said, ‘Let there be light;’ and there was light. And God saw the light, that it was good; and God divided the light from the darkness.” Genesis 1:1-4

The first spoken word of God recorded in the Bible God is, “Let there be light.” He saw the darkness over the earth and He released light into it. Then, He separated the light from the darkness.

Just as the earth is a place of both light and darkness in the natural, so it is in the spiritual. There is sin and there is righteousness; there is truth and there are lies; there is a kingdom of light and a kingdom of darkness.

Walking in the Light

As believers in Jesus, we are called to walk in the light. We are not to walk in hidden sin, thinking that it is not hurting anything because no one knows. We are not to live one way in front of our family, and another in front of our friends. We are not to seek the things of darkness, but to embrace the values of the Kingdom of Light.

Sin thrives in the dark but loses its power in the light. Demons love to dwell in the darkness of people’s lives, but they lose their influence when they are brought into the light.

Consider the words of 1 John 1:6-7: “If we say that we have fellowship with Him, and walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth. But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin.”

Are there any places in your life where you are walking in dark? Are there any areas that you are not willing to bring before God so that He can shine His light on them? Is there any sin that you need to confess to God or to others?

Take a step of faith into the light! Trust that God will meet you there to forgive, cleanse, and restore you. As long as you live in the dark you will stumble through life. But in the light, you will see the path before you. Don’t be afraid of the light. Remember, light is always greater than darkness.

How can you take step today toward the One who called you out of darkness and into His marvelous light? (See 1 Peter 2:9)
