Piercing the Darkness

Piercing the Darkness

By Joel B.

2 Cor 4:6 For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.

Have you ever felt that you were living in darkness if even for a moment? Maybe you’ve felt that the need to keep something hidden out of fear? These are all normal experiences that I would dare to say we have all had. The important thing to understand in all of this is that things left in secret can be dangerous. No, I’m not talking about things like keeping birthday parties secret. What I am speaking of is things that can help or hurt people, including ourselves.

In the book of John, Jesus is talked about numerous times as being the Light of the world. He’s the Light of the World because He represents truth and vision. You see, darkness would have you ignore the truth because it cannot understand or even see the truth. John 1:5 tells us this exact thing. It says, “And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.” Darkness can’t comprehend light because they are complete opposites of one another. It only takes a small flame or spark to light up a pitch black room.

John 12:46 I am come a light into the world, that whosoever believeth on me should not abide in darkness.

Of course there is the matter of personal application to this. As Christians we need to listen to the Holy Spirit. Paul talks in Romans 9:1 about how the Holy Spirit will confirm with our conscience the truth which can be found in Christ. When you plug this idea into the body of Christ, then you will have confirmation between one another. And that my friends is a key component of having Spirit-led fellowship.

So, don’t be afraid to let your light shine. If there is darkness in your life, then maybe it’s time to light a flame of truth under it and make it disappear? This could include sharing a “dark secret” with a trusted friend or getting spiritual counseling from a pastor. Once you get all the darkness out of your life, I guarantee you will be feeling happier, healthier, and your walk with the Lord will be better than ever. God bless.
