Tearing Down Walls Through The Love of God

Walls. We are hearing a lot about them. Some politicians want to build a wall across America’s southern border. There is the Great Wall of China, and the wall that existed when Germany was a politically divided nation. There are racial walls, and emotional walls of bitterness between people. Walls exist between communistic dictatorships and democratic societies, like North and South Korea, and between conservatives and liberals. People build walls to keep out the unwanted people and protect the good. According to Revelation 21:12, even heaven is described as having a “great and high wall.”

However one thinks of walls, the vast majority of cases implies separation. There are other words that could be used:divider, partition, barrier. A wall is something standing in the way of free access. When a wall is torn down it is usually for a good reason.

The Bible speaks of tearing down walls of a spiritual nature. Romans 8:35 asks,”Who shall separate us from the love of Christ?” The “certificate of debt consisting of decrees against us and which was hostile to us” standing in the way of salvation, Christ has taken “out of the way, having nailed it to the cross”(Colossians 2:14). During the crucifixion, the veil of the temple was torn in two. Before this only the High Priest could enter the Holy of Holies. But ever since that event, everyone can experience free access to enter God’s presence and come before his throne of grace (Hebrews 4:6).

In Jesus Christ all people have equal access with God. When people accept Jesus as their personal Lord and Savior, walls are torn down. Spiritual rebirth tears down the emotional and physical walls that have been erected because of the sinful nature of humanity. Men and women have built walls between them and God. That wall is called pride. Come humbly before God. He will tear down the separation that exists between you and him, and you will experience more freedom then ever before.

The writer of Romans 8:38-39 says, “For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, not things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” God loves you, my friend.

Tearing down walls is made possible by a heart and life transformed by the power of God’s love. The more people who are reconciled to God, the less need there will be for walls of any kind. What kind of walls could be torn down in your life right now if you decide to accept God’s love?
