The Journey Home

“And Enoch walked [in habitual fellowship] with God; and he was not, for God took him [home with Him] (Genesis 5:24 Amp).

A couple of men in the Old Testament, Enoch and Elijah, never tasted death. Fascinatingly, the two enjoyed glorious home-goings. Elijah in a chariot of fire and Enoch’s evening stroll (with God) turned galactic. Indeed, we can’t fathom the glories that await. The Apostle Paul’s out-of-body excursion allowed him to hear and see indescribable revelations. Although Paul died a torturous death, God allowed him a peek into the third heaven “…But I do know that I was caught up to paradise and heard things so astounding that they cannot be expressed in words, things no human is allowed to tell” (2 Corinth 12:2-4 NLT). Wow.

In Abraham’s day, God required the Hebrew children to live transitionally (in tents). Existing as pilgrims, strangers, foreigners, temporary residents, and exiles upon the earth (Hebrews 11:13). This lifestyle taught them to look upon God for all their needs. Likewise He wants our spiritual-eyes fixated upon an eternal (permanent) home, not earthly dwellings. Recently, I noticed the nice thing about lying in a hammock. You see lots of sky!

Before Jesus ascended to Father God, He reminded the disciples, “Trust Me. There’s plenty of room for you in My Father’s home. I’m going there Myself to get a room ready for you. When the room is ready, I’ll come back again and get you so you can live where I live” (John 14:1-3 Message). Christ-followers are to live expectantly. Just like our forefathers, we embrace that wonderful hope of a better place…a forever home. Blessings belong to those who long for and anticipate His return “And the prize is not just for me but for all who eagerly look forward to His appearing” (2 Tim 4:8b NLT). Poignantly, Revelation concludes with a reminder that Jesus may return at any moment. No one knows the hour He will descend; but make no mistake, He is coming (Rev 22:20).

I wouldn’t be surprised if I heard the ‘last trumpet blast’ before I finish this sentence. Hey, it could happen! What a dazzling graduation-day that will be when we’re changed in a flash. Translated quicker than an eye’s blink and donning a perfect supernatural body (1 Corinth 15:52). Traveling skyward will be the best day of our lives (1 Thess 4:17). In fact, pretty soon, I’ll say goodbye to a dear friend Elizabeth Gordon. At present, Hospice Care makes her comfortable. Assuredly guys, this world is not our home. Never was. Only passing through.
