Uniting With Christ: Because ALL Life Matters

It appears that we are now in the midst of a ‘pick-a-team’ mentality in regard to whose lives matter more. ‘Black lives matter.’ ‘Police lives matter.’ To agree with one implies the other is of no value. When in fact, Jesus’ sacrifice for all leaves no question that every life matters.

Status, appearance, character, profession, and physical or intellectual capability are not the determining factors in whether or not an individual life matters. Nor does stage of life. Every life matters.

This, ‘…one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.’, is becoming a nation fractured by causes, gripes, and grievances. Whether genuine or perceived, these grievances are destructive and divisive. When we allow ourselves to get caught up in an ‘us or them’ mentality, we tear holes in the fabric that makes us a country committed to preserving life and liberty.

It is in our nature to ‘pick a side.’ Ultimately, there are only two sides – good and evil. We must be on one or the other. Some will choose the side of good while others will choose the side of evil. Others may think they can ride the fence, believing the two can become a homogenized state of ‘not-so-bad.’  – They are mistaken.

Every person is born in sin. Therefore, we must choose to become a ‘free-agent’ by following Jesus. Unity in Christ breaks down the walls that divide us. Our ‘cause’ should be His – that all are reconciled with our Father in Heaven through Him. Not through coercion and hatred but with the love of Jesus in our hearts.

In choosing to follow Jesus Christ, we reject the sin nature born in us. We can live victoriously, through Him as we live our lives devoted to His cause.

5 So put to death the sinful, earthly things lurking within you. Have nothing to do with sexual immorality, impurity, lust, and evil desires. Don’t be greedy, for a greedy person is an idolater, worshiping the things of this world. 6 Because of these sins, the anger of God is coming. 7 You used to do these things when your life was still part of this world. 8 But now is the time to get rid of anger, rage, malicious behavior, slander, and dirty language. 9 Don’t lie to each other, for you have stripped off your old sinful nature and all its wicked deeds. 10 Put on your new nature, and be renewed as you learn to know your Creator and become like him. 11 In this new life, it doesn’t matter if you are a Jew or a Gentile, circumcised or uncircumcised, barbaric, uncivilized, slave, or free. Christ is all that matters, and he lives in all of us.

12 Since God chose you to be the holy people he loves, you must clothe yourselves with tenderhearted mercy, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience. 13 Make allowance for each other’s faults, and forgive anyone who offends you. Remember, the Lord forgave you, so you must forgive othersColossians 3:5-13 (NLT)

  1. Melinda,

Yes, society has become a mess fighting over “who matters.” I think most of us realize that EVERYBODY matters, but still people will push to harm each other. It’s just sad really, but what can you do? Hopefully some of the tension will pass soon. I guess we need to be in prayer so God will touch the hearts of those filled with anger. Thanks for sharing. God bless.
