Who Is It “All About” Anyway?

As a parent, many times I was moved to say to my young one, “You are not the mother.  You are not the Queen.  You are not God.”  She often operated under the mistaken idea that everything centered around her; and if it didn’t, then it should.

Ever come across someone with that mindset?  It isn’t pretty and it isn’t always children.  There are some pretty mixed up teens and adults that also strut down this path.  As sad as it was to me, a parent, I read that God is also grieved by this type of mindset.  Israel was wonderfully adept at taking on this frame of mind; but God, in His mercy, repeatedly forgave them and offered them another opportunity to get it right.  He is on our side and He does want us to get it right.  I think the following verses from the poem He inspired in me sums up His thoughts about it very well:

“It’s About Me,” Says The Lord

“It is not about the way you sing your special songs.

Not about the times you pray so fervently and long.

And not about the way you can stand up and boldly say,

‘Get out Satan, go back where you belong.’

It is not about the way you squeeze in many hours to serve,

Not about the time you spend reading My Holy Word.

And it is not about the way you do good deeds day after day,

Trusting then your place in heaven is secured.

Now, if you demand control, how can My plan be made whole?

If self reigns free where is the place for Me?

Oh, don’t you see that I deserve the glory?

It’s about Me, the faithful, holy righteous Christ.

About Me,” says the Lord. “I’m the one who paid the price.

My blood washed away your sin, made the way to enter in.

It’s about Me, not about you,” says the Lord.

Today is Good Friday, the day Jesus paid the ultimate price for our redemption.  As we remember His great suffering and sacrifice on the cross for our eternal good, let’s not forget to give Him the credit and the glory for His loving deed.  It is about Him.  He deserves all the credit for the good and the blessings in our lives.  Make sure you keep this Easter season all about Him, our loving Savior and Lord, Jesus the Christ.

Have you been operating under the impression that it’s all about you?  What steps will you take to make it all about Jesus and His work on the cross?
