Why We Should All Be Praying For Pastor Saeed Abedini

“This means that we should not do things that we like to do (that God does not want us to do) and do things that we do not like to do (but God wants us to do) so that He may be glorified.”    -Saeed Abedini

Why should we pray for Saeed Abedini?

With the exception of the 3rd century there has never been such a brutal time for Christians. Christian persecution is on the rise and it doesn’t appear to be slowing down. Christians are not safe in many parts of the world. Perhaps many people think these things aren’t really happening because the media can’t always be trusted on what they are reporting. However, this is our reality right now. Christians really are facing prison, torture, and death for their faith in Jesus Christ!

“Yet if any man suffer as a Christian, let him not be ashamed; but let him glorify God on this behalf.”
1 Peter 4:16

Sadly many people have not heard about Saeed Abedini. If you are one of these people here is some background information: Pastor Saeed Abedini is from Idaho and decided to visit Iran to finish the process to build an orphanage in his hometown. He was just hours away from getting ready to fly back home to Idaho to see his wife Naghmeh and children, Jacob and Rebecca. However, on the last day of planning Saeed was arrested and thrown into jail for being a Christian. He was told he would be let go if he would recant his Christian faith and return to his muslim roots. Saeed refused and has been in jail ever since and is currently serving an 8 year prison sentence.

Throughout his time in prison he has endured torture which has left him in unbearable pain and with many internal injuries which are not taken care of. Saeed sits in his cell every day and prays even though he has no Bible. He prays for his captors and the other inmates. Saeed continues to pray because he knows that God hears his words even if he can only muster a muttering whisper, the Lord still hears him. Saeed has the gift of faith and knows that God will see him through. Saeed loves our Heavenly Father and will do anything for the Lord. His priority is the Kindgom of Heaven!

We should pray for Saeed because he is our brother in Christ! Today marks 787 days that he has been in prison and I encourage you to join me and others as we pray for Pastor Saeed, inmates around Saeed, and his captors.

“But I say to you, Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you.”  –Matthew 5:44
