The Imperfectly Perfect Woman

As women, we stress about beauty, money, children, spouse, and power, among others. We aspire to be the perfect woman. As a result, women, tend to become very competitive. Even though the Bible warns that it’s unwise to compare ourselves to each other, we still insist on doing it. “Oh, don’t worry; we wouldn’t dare say that we are as wonderful as these other men who tell you how important they are! But they are only comparing themselves with each other, using themselves as the standard of measurement. How ignorant!” (2 Corinthians 10:12)

When we size-up ourselves with “The Joneses,” we seem to always fall short… but by whose comparison? A lot of the times when you take a closer look at the Joneses, they’re not as happy as you think. Their house may be going into foreclosure, their kids may be failing in school or a spouse may be suffering from addiction.

Let’s be realistic, someone’s nose will always be straighter, lips will always be fuller, and breasts will always be rounder. Someone will always be a better wife, a better mother, or a better friend. Even then, don’t be fooled—no one is perfect. True beauty and success lies in diversity. The truth is, there is no perfect woman. We don’t have to accept the pressures of our society to fit in with the perfect woman. They’re nonexistent. In fact, they are made-up images created for selfish gains.

The Bible’s Opinion
As women, we work so hard to look beautiful and to be successful. The problem is that our definition of beauty and success comes from looking at others. God’s definition of beauty and success is very different. We should try looking to Him and living by His idea of perfection. There are no perfect women in the Bible, yet through their imperfections, God used them to fulfill His purpose.

Let It Go
Spend most of your time doing the things that are important to you. Value moments shared with the people you love and cherish. Live by God’s rules—and your own… not everyone else’s. Remember, because every other woman is doing it doesn’t mean it has to be done. Instead of moaning and complaining about what we don’t have, let’s slow down and appreciate those things we do have. Laugh hard, dance long, and love meaningfully. Appreciate life and savor it. Don’t be burdened with the world’s ideals of being perfect because in truth, the perfect woman is perfectly imperfect.

What are your views on the perfect woman? Do you think they exist?
