5 Super Food Villains Everybody Needs To Know About

When you think of “super foods” what goes through your mind? You probably have thoughts of broccoli spears, celery sticks, and tofu. However, today when I talk about “super foods”, I want to talk about the super villains and not the heroes. In fact, I’m going to zero in on five of these criminal masterminds that would even slow Superman down faster than a chunk of kryptonite.

Diabolical Villain #5: The Masked Margarine

Does anybody really know what this mysterious substance is? It’s not butter and it certainly isn’t healthy. In fact, without the added artificial coloring this sticky slab of disgustingness is an unpleasant shade of grey. Need more ammo to fight this culprit? Well, not only will this sticky substance raise your bad cholesterol, it will also put you at risk for diabetes, heart disease, and raise your risk for cancer.

Diabolical Villain #4: Mr. Potato Chip

Nobody can eat just one, two, ten, twenty. Oh no! The whole bag is gone! Not only are potato chips highly addictive, but they are deadly. They have high levels of sodium, are full of calories, and often contain deadly trans fats. But wait, Mr. Potato Chip has a deadly secret. He also contains a potentially dangerous substance called acrylamide, that has been linked to cancer, infertility, and nerve damage.

Diabolical Villain #3: The Microwave Popcorn Gang

Like Mr. Potato Chip, the Microwave Popcorn Gang is extremely addictive, full of trans fats, and has high levels of sodium. Many times these little kernels are often covered in a not-so-delightful, once-grey substances called…you guessed it….Margarine! To make things worse, the inside of the popcorn bags are coated with a chemical, known as PFOA, which is used to prevent sticking. PFOA has been linked to cancer and infertility.

Diabolical Villain #2: Dr. Soda Pop

This criminal has gotten more and more dangerous throughout time. I remember back in the day when portion sizes were around 8 ounces, but now this dastardly villain comes in 32 and 48 oz single serving sizes. The average 12 oz can of regular soda has the equivalent of approximately 10 teaspoons of sugar, and diet soda typically contains aspartame. Either way, you’re likely to do damage to your body. Especially in the form of cancer, obesity, and cardiovascular disease. Make no mistake about it, this Dr. is no dentist and will even destroy your pearly white chompers.

Diabolical Villain #1 The Evil Bacon Double Cheeseburger

The arch-villain of the food world is hands down the Bacon Double Cheeseburger or any number of processed meats. They are extremely high in sodium, calories, trans fat, bad cholesterol, and chemical preservatives. They do have some nutritional value, but not enough to justify piling one of these deviants in your mouth. Processed meats are also linked especially to colon cancer, but can have serious other adverse health effects as well.

Friends, to win the battle against these food villains, you must be your very own personal food super hero. You can do this by making good choices when it comes to picking meals, snacks, and even the things you drink. Remember, we are called to glorify God with our bodies and making healthy food choices is one giant step in the right direction.

1 Corinthians 10:31 Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God.

  1. Such great truth Joel. I battle Dr. Soda Pop. It is awful.

  2. Wonderful article, Joel. I know how hard it is to give up our comfort foods but is it really worth what we’re doing to our bodies? I don’t know about others, but I needed this reminder today.
