Are You God’s Friend?

Thankful.  That’s what I am; overjoyed and humbled to declare, announce, shout out that, “God is my Friend”.  To think that the God of all creation, the One who made the sun and the moon and hung the planets in just the right spots and then created mankind in His own image…He knows the number of hairs on my head.  (Matthew 10:30)  And not only that…John 3:16 says He sent His son to redeem me (and all mankind) when we so deeply disappointed Him.  This God knows me by name and is intricately acquainted with all my ways. (Psalm 139: 1-3)  He loves me.  He created me on purpose for a purpose.  He planned and planted in me the talents I would need to do what He designed me to do.  He allows just the right challenges in my life that hone off the rough edges of my fleshly efforts.

Why, just this morning, He showed Himself friendly again.  It transpired like this.  Last night I signed up for a substitute teaching position for half a day today.  I had to get up at 5:40 to get everything done with the animals and me then drive 45 minutes to arrive by 7:30 a.m. to my assignment.  I was running the hairdryer with the door closed and didn’t hear the phone ring at 6:00 a.m.  Finally noticing a message existed,  I listened but couldn’t understand anything except the number the caller gave indicating it was from the substitute office.  Returning the call, I explained that I had a half day assignment for the day.  Oddly, that information was nowhere to be found…except for a December date with the same specifics!  My loving God made sure I didn’t hear the phone so I wouldn’t have to turn down a position.  He allowed the caller’s words to be garbled necessitating the need to call to get the message, and He kept me from driving on a cold, icy morning in heavy traffic to a position that didn’t exit.  I am thankful that He – the God of the whole universe – is my friend.

Just as importantly, can you say that God is your friend?  He wants to be.  He is not an “exclusive” God that closes Himself off from all but a select few of His children.  Unfortunately, some think that is the case.  Is that you?  Can you believe the potential exists for a real friendship with the God that lovingly, thoughtfully, and purposely created you?  Take some time to think back on situations that you have attributed to “coincidence”.  (Matthew 6:26)  Change your mindset to one centered on God’s love for you.  Would you let me know what one event looked like?  When you start to look at the intricate details, I am sure you will see God’s loving hand working on your behalf.  His huge heart desires a two-way avenue of communication with His children.  He wants to be your friend.
