God Will Take Care Of You

The year was 1904.  Civilla Martin lay on a sickbed, chronically ill, while her preacher husband worked on a songbook for the president of the Bible school where they were staying.  One Sunday during their stay, Mr. Martin was appointed to a preaching assignment located several hours away.  That very morning, Civilla took a turn for the worst.  As the two discussed whether he should cancel his appointment, their young son commented,  “Father, don’t you think that if God wants you to preach today, He will take of mother while you are away?”  God seemed to use their own child to send them His message. (Luke 10:21)

Preacher Martin kept his appointment and a special move of the Spirit of God was evident at the meeting.  Several people accepted Jesus as their personal Savior. (God honored Mr. Martin’s faith.)  At home, Civilla, even though troubled by clouds of doubt and fear, penned a poem expressing her trust in God as He comforted her while she lay bedridden.  (God used her in her weakness.)  When her husband returned home, she shared the poem she had written.  He immediately sat down at the organ and composed the music.  That very night, he and two teachers sang the completed song.  Not surprisingly, this song ended up in the songbook on which he was working.

Be not dismayed whate’er betide,
God will take care of you;
Beneath His wings of love abide,
God will take care of you.

Refrain

God will take care of you,
Through every day, over all the way;
He will take care of you,
God will take care of you.

Through days of toil when heart doth fail,
God will take care of you;
When dangers fierce your path assail,
God will take care of you.

Refrain

All you may need He will provide,
God will take care of you;
Nothing you ask will be denied,
God will take care of you.

Refrain

No matter what may be the test,
God will take care of you;
Lean, weary one, upon His breast,
God will take care of you.

Refrain

Are things rough right now?  Does it seem you are all alone?  Do you think God has forgotten you?  Don’t despair.  Even though this song is over 100 years old, it holds one of God’s most precious truths…He will never leave you nor forsake you.  (Deuteronomy 31:8)   When it seems you are in a dire predicament, ask Him for direction and wisdom.  He longs to be of service to you, His beloved child.  (1 Peter 5:7)  He loves you with an endless love and will forever take care of you.

What do you need to trust God with today?  Can you believe that God is really caring for you in your hour of need?

    • Louis, all I know is that she lived to be 76 years old. She passed away on August 9, 1948. God did take care of her during all those years. She and her husband wrote many other hymns that are still very significant today. Thank you for reading and asking! God bless and take care of you, too.

  1. Thank you Stephany I need Gods care desperately

    • Dear God, on Louis’ behalf, since this is my day to pray for other people’s requests, I ask you to take special care of him. You already know how desperately he needs you. You know the specifics of just what he needs. I pray that You will be so obvious in Your care that he can’t miss Your moves on his behalf. Give him the extra grace and faith to see the little things that really are Your hands at work. Show him your great love. In Jesus’ name I ask. Amen. I will put your name on my list, Louis. I will put your name on our TBLfaithnews.com list as well. God bless you.
