How Have You Colored Your World Lately?

Among the most satisfying impacts one can make is to color another person’s world in a way that your kindness given can not be repaid.  That is why a myriad of people are so wonderfully blessed when someone chooses to “pay it forward”.   When a blessing, whether vibrant or subtle, is received, most times from an anonymous source, the recipient seeks to add his or her personal hue of color to bless another by making possible that same brush-full of great thankfulness, joy, and wonder.  When we each add our specific, God-given color, it creates a huge rainbow effect as the ripples of the loving deed fan out through other lives.

If we imagine ourselves as a part of a God-sized work of great artistry and value, most of us would categorize ourselves as   “subtle accent colors”.  Our personal color contributes to the beauty of the whole design and the outcome is inspiring.  There are others who categorize themselves as the “bold, important colors” which define more specifically the major focus of this wonderful piece.  Both are absolutely necessary to the overall effect and beauty of God’s artistic intent.  His work would not be complete with out it.

I have colored my world with surprise kindnesses like paying secretly for a stranger’s meal, leaving an anonymous note of encouragement on a door or windshield, or offering prayer to a stranger who seems downtrodden.  There is no end to the many shades of color that we can add to this beautiful canvas called life.  Each person adds their “color” as God directs and supplies.

Have you been coloring your world with your unique offering?  It will do no good to say your “color” has no value or that no one will like the particular color you offer.  I bet you have heard the saying, “Beauty is in the eye of the beholder”.  It is true.  My particular favorite color may not be the same as yours, but someone else might be totally inspired by the color you add.  Apply your God-given color with abandon.

How can your color impact someone today?  Can you offer a hug?  Can you leave an encouraging note?  Can you secretly provide a need?  Can you leave a nice treat on the sly for a co-worker?  People around us may smile and look like they have their life all together while on the inside they daily die a thousand deaths.  These people need the uplifting, colorful hues that God equips us to bring.  (Philippians 2:13)  Those operating in “survival mode” need our inspired, colorful splashes to bring them back to the reality that someone does care – even if it be a stranger with a very unique way of adding some uplifting sparkle and color to their lives.

How have you colored your world lately?  (John 15:8)

Very beautiful article. I hope lots of people read this. I know they will be inspired by it. God bless.

  2. I just read on a ‘for sale board’ of a group that is planning 99 Random Acts of Kindness this weekend for the homeless. But I’m thinking maybe the fact that they asked a question on that board colored even more lives! I love this thought…of coloring lives. I get the joy of being in a drop-in center, so God brings folks to me to love on. And they sure do color my world. Have a blessed day!
