Mender of the Heart

Doctors have confirmed it; you can die from a broken heart. “Broken Heart Syndrome” occurs when the heart fails due to hormone surges. Often, it occurs in the elderly when one spouse dies after many years of marriage, and the other follows– sometimes within hours. It occurs more often with women than with men. And even in past centuries, among the many contagious disease that shortened lives, “griefe” was a common cause of death. But it does not have to be fatal…

To most of us, dying of a broken heart is reserved for a romance novel, or a cliché used to describe profound sadness. But what about the “heart” of the man—-the inner being known only to us and to God? The place inside us that is affected by the events of our lives. This is the home of our desires, needs, hopes, and the cares of life. God’s Word tells us that the very issues of life flow from it.

But how can we care for this innermost part of who we are? The place where we experience all the joys and pains of our lives, some too much for us to handle alone. How do you mend a broken heart? Only the Creator of our “heart” can completely comfort us, guide us, and heal us from the wounds of the world. Do you feel like your heart is breaking? God cares about what concerns you–“When the cares of my heart are many, Your consolations cheer my soul. Psalm 94:19 (Amplified Bible)

You are never alone, He sees you, too, and He can cheer your soul if you will just take the step…and trust the Mender of the broken heart.
