Never Too Old To Set New Records In Golf

Have you ever had a hole-in-one? I haven’t, and I have played golf in three countries, undersea, and in outer space. Actually, I am talking here about playing golf on my cell phone. I have yet to get my angle and distance just right so that I can find out what the little fellow does on my Samsung screen when the ball goes in with just one shot.

For many people golfing is a leisurely sport that is done just for fun. I have had a few experiences on the golf course that I would rather not talk about. Quite frankly, I don’t get a lot of thrill out of walking or driving around, especially on a hot day, trying to get a little white, orange, yellow, or who cares what color the ball is, into a hole, let alone the first time. Then, of course, we all know that there are those who are very good and make some big money.

Whether one does it for sport or money, getting a hole-in-one is everyone’s pride and joy. Gus Andreone has been golfing for 75 years. On December 17, 2014, at the Palm Acre Country Club in Sarasota, Florida, he lined up his ball for the 14th hole. The ball went straight down the green for 113 yards in one drive. This was not, however, just another hole-in-one. It was by the 103-year-old Gus, who according to PGA.com, is likely the oldest person to score one. According to the website he beat the previous record by a 102-old woman who aced a hole in 2007. This is the eighth time that Gus Andreone has accomplished this feat, the first one being 75 years ago.

A person is never too old to set new records. Gus said, “As long as I can swing a club, even if I have to play three or four holes, I’m going to play golf.” This senior citizen is a good example of a person who refuses to let his life diminish. He is finishing strong and has much drive (pun intended) left to forge ahead.

How about you? Whether you are a young person or a senior, do you have goals? Are you doing something with your life to keep you motivated? You are never too old to see your dream unfold!

This story has spiritual application as well. II Corinthians 4:16 says, “Therefore, we do not lose heart, but though our outer man is decaying yet our inner man is being renewed day by day.” Take it from Gus. He knows how to renew the inner man and warm your heart as well.
