Emma Loves Teddy

“My Brother, Teddy,” is a New York Times Op-Doc about young Emma who likes a lot of things, but LOVES her brother Teddy. Emma was 3 years old when Teddy was born with a viral infection that caused him to have severe brain damage, which led to cerebral palsy. In this op-doc, Emma can’t help but see past Teddy’s limitations because of all the wonderful things Teddy can do, such as laugh at her jokes.

Spanning over 5 years, this op-doc also looks at some of the challenges of raising a child with cerebral palsy, but puts a greater emphasis on loving these special children for who they are and their value as human beings. Emma is now 10 and Teddy is 7, and their bond is still as strong as it has ever been. Truly a wonderful piece to view.

  1. Unique situation for Emma to accept at a young age but very special that she embraces it with a tender heart of love and compassion! The way she interacts with her brother demonstrates how much she cares for him.
It reminds me of our helpless conditions before God and His tender care towards us no matter the cost. In our brokenness, God demonstrated His love for us in that while we were yet in our rebellious and sinful condition, Christ died for us.to deliver us from the grip that sin has over us… Oh what love, what mercy, and what grace!
