Our Hope: He Is Our Provision

‘Whoever trusts in his riches will fall, but the righteous will thrive like a green leaf.’ Proverbs 11:28 (NIV)

Something I have learned over the years is that I cannot trust in my own riches.  Not that I am, or ever have been, rich, but I have enjoyed very good financial times.  I have also experienced the other side of the coin, (no pun intended), in that I have suffered through some very lean times.  Either way, I have always come out knowing that I was blessed, and that God was with me.

Money is not our provision.  It does not pay our bills.  It does not warm our hearts, light our fires, or gas up our cars.  It is simply what it is…currency, and of little value when used improperly.  It is how we view it and use it that matters.  But true provision is something else entirely.

‘I say to myself, “The LORD is my portion; therefore I will wait for Him.” ‘ Lamentations 3:24 (NIV)

Anything we could ever need is in the LORD’s hands.  He is our source.  He is our provider.  Even though things may seem impossible, or the meal on our table does not appear to be enough, He will make it so.  He wants to give to us.  The only thing we must do is trust Him, and wait.   And that part is not always easy.  We tend to think we can fix any problem we have ourselves, devising schemes and plans to work things out.  And while our plan may seem perfect, we find ourselves falling more and more behind, digging deeper and deeper, until we just know we can never climb up out of this mess.  When we reach that point, if we will simply surrender to Him, and allow Him to do what He does best, then the hopelessness of the situations we find ourselves in will eventually reverse its course, and we start to see the forest for the trees, the light at the end of the tunnel.  We are coming through, and it’s all because of God’s intervention, His divine hand on our human problems.

Even when times are very good, we still must rely on God’s provision.  We need His guidance, and His wisdom, to make good decisions.  We need Him to continue to walk with us, and allow only Him to be our God.  If we have been given much, then we are expected to be responsible with what we have, and use it accordingly.  Again, we must trust and wait on Him.  Because no matter our financial situation, He is still our Father, and all good things come from Him.

‘The LORD is good to those who wait for him, to the soul who seeks him.’ Lamentations 3:25 (ESV)

He is Our Hope.  And if we will simply trust and wait on Him, He will indeed be our portion, and our hope will be revived within us once again.

Blessings!
