Our Hope: Sing to Your Lord!

‘Sing to God, sing praises to His name; extol Him who rides on the clouds, by His name Yah, and rejoice before Him.’ Psalm 68:4 (NKJV)

‘I can’t sing’, you say.  Nonsense!  If you can make a noise, you can sing. You can sing to your Lord!

You see, God doesn’t hear flat notes, or off-key voices, or even when the volume is too high or too low. He only hears what He wants to hear, which is the praise.  If you lift up your voice with sincerity, with purpose, with love in your heart of hearts, then your voice will sound like silk and lace to your Lord.

Of course there are many ways to share praise and worship with God.  But when we make it this personal, singing to Him, surely He is pleased.

Singing to God was present from the very beginning.  The angels and the cherubims sang praises to His holy name.  When the Israelites traveled to the various feasts held throughout the year, they would sing psalms.  With these psalms they gave praise to their Creator, singing of their adoration for Him and for His ways.  They thanked Him for their protection and their blessings as they traveled.

Singing continues today, often with the great older hymns, written by men and women who knew and loved their Lord.  Many had experienced great tragedies, while others saw the promises of the future.   But all put their pens to the paper, placing appropriate honor and glory amid their many words.

We also celebrate God and His Son, Jesus, through Gospel and Contemporary styles of music.  Some Christians even sing rap as praise.  The important thing is that they are singing.  Whether our voices mix together in corporate praise and worship, or we sing in the shower where nobody but God Himself will hear, if it is offered up as praise and worship, that is exactly how He will receive it.

No matter what kind of music we share with our God, it will still be the heart that He looks at.  It will be the sacrifice of our praise that He rejoices in.  And it will be the fact that we love Him, and are telling Him all about it, that will literally please His heart.  He cares not if you have a professional, perfectly pitched voice, or if your notes are hitting all over the place.  He loves you, and He loves your praise.

He is Our Hope.  Through the singing we share with Him, the Hope we have in Him is communicated. He hears it in every word, in every note sung, in every breath.  Even when life is not at its best, when we sing to Him honestly and with true worship, Our Hope will rise up strong within us once more.

When you sing for God, what is it you hope to convey to Him, and how does praising Him in song make you feel?

Blessings!
